Inside Look: What Makes Bluecrew a Great Place to Work
Tim Somerville is the Recruiting Manager for corporate roles in our Chicago office. In light of our recent Great Place to Work certification, we asked him to weigh in on what makes our workplace, our team, and our culture stand out.
No matter who I’m talking to, when I talk about Bluecrew, I start with what we do. We’re disrupting the staffing industry on both sides. Our platform connects workers with long- and short-term employment that fits their lives. At the same time, employers have access to the high-quality workers and workforce data they need. We are improving the way staffing works for everyone, and that makes me excited to work at Bluecrew.
It’s also one of many things that makes Bluecrew a Great Place to Work.
I’m thrilled to be the one to announce formally (at least, on our website) that Bluecrew has been named a certified Great Place to Work. I think we earned this award because everyone on our team - starting from the top - knows why we’re here and what we’re here to do. We’re here to build a better world of work.
Bluecrew is solving an important problem, and we have a solid, data-driven culture to help us get it done. The staffing industry is set up so that individuals’ subjective decisions rule the day. We help employers improve their hiring and select the best-fit workers every time by focusing on historical worker data and verified skills and experience.
I’m a recruiter. I know how inefficient hiring can be. And I know that this goal of creating a hiring and employment process where everyone is treated fairly is part of why people join our Bluecrew team.
On a personal level, I come to work every day to contribute to something that makes an impact on people’s lives.
I worked catering jobs in college and felt disorganized - my life and schedule were chaotic. Then, I graduated in the midst of the recession and worked hourly jobs while I searched for more permanent employment. It wasn’t easy, and I knew there had to be a better way to find stability. Bluecrew is bringing a real solution to this market, and I love being part of that.
Determination and hard work are encompassed in everything we do. We hustle, we own our work, and we show up to make an impact. I take pride in the fact that Bluecrew is a serious, work-centric place. We still have fun, but first and foremost, everyone on the Bluecrew team knows we’re here to build something important - to make peoples’ lives better and give them new opportunities.
