Becoming Part of Denver’s Community: Bluecrew in the Mile-High City

Our Crew Members started working in Denver in mid-2018 as mechanics and drivers, and we’ve added new employers and positions consistently since.

The Bluecrew Denver team has built strong connections in the hospitality industry, and many of our Denver Crew Members specialize as servers, cooks, catering attendants, and event staff. And with so many activities and events going on every day in the Denver area, it makes sense that hospitality and event positions are in high demand. While those types of Denver jobs have been in short supply during the recent coronavirus pandemic, we’re excited to get them back on our platform soon.

We’re also thankful to partner with local warehouses, manufacturers, and delivery companies. In our quest to help Denverites find great short- and long-term jobs, we’ve been lucky to work with lots of diverse businesses and offer hundreds of different positions.

In the recent past, things have obviously been a little bit different. Like most large U.S. cities, Denver has been “sheltering-in-place” since March 24. The festivals and activities that usually keep the city excited have been canceled, and many outdoor trails have even been closed to help prevent gatherings.

But things are changing in Denver. As of Saturday, May 9, many of the city’s businesses have been able to reopen as long as they adhere to social distancing guidelines, 50% capacity, and other preventative measures. This is the light at the end of the tunnel. While we are all still working hard to keep our community safe, we are excited to help the more than one thousand Crew Members we employ in Mile-High City get back to work, and to help the many businesses that have been struggling during this time resume hiring staff in Denver.

For a closer look at the city and what it’s like to be part of our Denver Bluecrew team, we asked Kelly MacFarlane, our local Account Executive to share a bit about his experience. Keep reading for what Kelly had to say.

Why do you love Denver?

This city has the perfect combination of community and geography that supports a work hard, play hard"er" lifestyle. The best skiing, hiking, biking, etc. is all in our backyard, it truly makes our region unique. I couldn't think of a better place to work and live!

What’s it like to be part of the Bluecrew Denver team?

It’s a lot of fun! We have a crucial role in supporting the strong event economy around the Denver metro area. We’ve also been working hard to bring a broad range of jobs to our Crew Members, and we’re starting to make a big impact by helping some local businesses staffing their warehouses and production lines. When you think about Denver, most people think about coffee and beer. So we’re starting to help out coffee roasters and breweries/distilleries!

What has Denver been like during shelter-in-place?

As a state, Colorado has taken the shelter-in-place guidelines and recommendations very seriously. I already know that the precaution and action I see being taken throughout the community has paid huge dividends for the safety and well-being of our neighbors. That gives me a lot of hope.

There is a lot that I miss though. I’ve always enjoyed being able to walk down the street to some of my favorite local restaurants like Angelo's, Pablo's Coffee, and Satchel's for a delicious meal and great hospitality. I think we all hope to see small businesses make it through these challenging times and are doing our part to continue to support them.

What are you looking forward to?

Before the pandemic hit, we saw record lows of unemployment throughout our region. There is no reason why Bluecrew won't be able to help our community quickly return to the levels of work we saw just a few months ago. I’m excited to be able to help my community get back to work while giving people the flexibility to choose the jobs and companies they are truly interested in.

Tell us about one of your favorite Bluecrew memories.

There was one time our Crew Members were helping out at a year-end company party for one of the largest production/manufacturing facilities in Colorado. That’s a pretty big deal! I had a funny interaction with one of the Crew Members who was a little bit panicked on site -  he had commuted across town and was worried he wouldn’t be able to work the job because he wore the wrong colored pants. Catering jobs can be strict about dress codes, and he didn’t want to miss out on a good gig! Luckily, I had an extra pair of pants in my car, so I lent him my extras. Problem solved, and it made for a good story, too!
